There are those who would limit or restrict the recreational use of horses and mules on public land. We disagree, but the voice of one person standing alone is not often heard. As a Local, State and National organization, approximately 160,000 members strong, working with land managers, law makers and other user groups we can help preserve the horsemen’s privledge to the recreational use of stock on public lands.
The name “Back Country Horsemen” does not mean that all our members, women and men, have to be back country users. Although we have a number of members who ride and pack with horses and mules, most of our members are day riders who either camp at the trailhead or drive in for a day ride. Back country packers, front country riders, or any trail enthusiast who agrees that public lands should remain open for recreational equestrian use, are welcome. We are a service organization and provide volunteer work to open and maintain trails.
BCHWV invites you to become actively involved in preserving back country stock use by joining one of the existing chapters. If no chapter exists in your area you may join independently, or if you know other interested users in your area you may form a new chapter. Basic dues are very low (Individual $25, Family $30, Dual Chapter $15/$20, Associate Sponsorship $50) but additional contributions and donations are always welcome.
